Overview:
The Safety Specialist will apply a working knowledge of OSHA compliance, fire protection systems, and safety standards to all Nationwide locations. This position is responsible for the development, implementation, monitoring, and managing of safety programs, policies, and procedures in accordance with safety regulations. The Safety Specialist will ensure Nationwide is compliant with all current safety regulations.

Work Environment:
Work is regularly performed in a combination of office and warehouse environments and is regularly exposed to heavy machinery and noise.
Physical Demands:
While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and required standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee may frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of office operations are Monday through Friday 8:00am to 6:00pm. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel:
Up to 25% travel is required to visit all Nationwide warehouse locations.

Essential Functions:

- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive OSHA compliance programs specific to warehouse operations.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections of the warehouse facility to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations.
- Lead the design, installation, and maintenance of fire protection systems in the warehouse, including fire alarms, sprinklers and suppression systems.
- Conduct thorough risk assessments of warehouse layouts to identify potential safety hazards and implement appropriate controls.
- Provide training (& materials) to warehouse staff on OSHA regulations, safety procedures, and emergency response protocols.
- Maintain health and safety records and prepare accident reporting.
- Collaborate with warehouse management to develop and implement strategies to mitigate risks and improve safety performance.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Inform managers on issues that need attention pertaining to unsafe work practices.
- Stay current with changes in OSHA regulations, fire protection standards, and industry best practices.
- Assist in the development and implementation of other compliance programs as needed.
- Provide safety training for new employees and conduct annual safety training follow-ups.
- Conduct risk assessments of warehouse locations.
Competencies:
- Extensive knowledge of company safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to conduct training.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field
- 1-3 years of experience in warehouse and/or manufacturing operations
- OSHA 30 Hour Certification and NFPA membership
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree in Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field
- 4+ years of experience in warehouse and/or manufacturing operations
- OSHA 30 & NFPA Certification
- ISO experience preferred
